As most mechanics know, the cooling system is one of the most important components of a car’s engine, as it regulates temperature and prevents vehicle overheating. If the system develops leaks, corrosion, and deposits, that can affect the performance and lead to overheating and premature engine damage.

SWAN Ignition Coils helps drive Harrison Turnbull to Victory
Swan Ignition Coils is proud to be supporting and promoting Harrison Turnbull’s Junior Sedan career.
Harrison’s love for motor racing was ignited at an early age when his mother and uncles raced speedway go-karts. Along with his family role models, Harrison looks up to James McFadden, a Northern Territory Sprintcar racer. In 2018, James won the Tri-Star Cup at the Chariots of Thunder event in Darwin and held a competition, allowing his supporters to win the trophy. Harrison was lucky enough to take it home.
Harrison followed in the family footsteps in 2017 when he started racing a speedway go-kart at the age of 7. The following year, Harrison won the sub-junior speedway go-kart events at both the Australian and Northern Territory Titles.
With his impressive go-kart driving skills at such a young age, he was offered a drive for the 2020 Speedway Junior Sedans season behind the wheel of an old Toyota Corolla.
Unfortunately, due to the Covid lockdowns, his home track of Northline Speedway did not host any events that year, so he had to make the six-hour round trip to Katherine Speedway to participate in their shortened season.
Harrison upgraded his Corolla to a Daihatsu Charade for the 2021 and 2022 Northline Speedway Junior Sedans seasons, which is when he had his first major achievement in the class. In 2021, he won the Top Stars Junior Championship, the DSRDA Most Improved, and Junior Sports Person of the Year.
At this year’s Kununurra Speedway Junior Sedan title, held on September 9th, Harrison managed 3 heat wins and his first Junior Sedan track title. His victory came in his current car, a Hyundai Excel, which is running our SWAN ignition coil.
At SWAN ignition coils, we believe it is vital to support independent race teams, as we have done before and will continue to do so. We also see that we need to invest in the next generation of race drivers to help them achieve their goals and ambitions.
Harrison is primarily competing in the championship at Northline Speedway for the Top Star Junior Sedans. He is, however, looking to start racing in interstate events in order to experience new tracks and compete at State and National title events. His future ambitions are to compete in a Wingless Sprintcar or, at the very least, crew for a Sprintcar team.
Harrison’s skills also go beyond the steering wheel, as he does all his race car maintenance.

SWAN Ignition Coils Attends the 2022 Parts 4 Trade Show.
After a three-year absence due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The Parts 4 trade show returned in 2022, which was held at the Rydes Hotel in Sydney.
SWAN Ignition Coils debuted as an exhibitor this year after becoming a preferred supplier for the Parts 4 group earlier in May.
Prior to the trade show, we had already been supplying our ignition coils to Parts 4 retailers and had received great feedback on our range and high quality, but we saw that the mutually beneficial relationship could be nurtured with other members.
To give some insight into the Parts 4 Automotive Group, it was founded in March 2001 and consisted of only eight Victorian stores. The founders were frustrated by their current arrangement with suppliers as they were being dictated to regarding stock and advertising. So, they sorted out a better way to empower themselves and other independent retailers into a position that would give them an even playing field when it comes to purchasing and negotiating power.
Today, the group has expanded Australia wide to consist of ninety-six independently run retail stores and sixty-four preferred suppliers.
For us at SWAN Ignition Coils, trade shows are not a new experience. We have been exhibiting our range at the Australian Automotive Aftermarket Expo (AAAE) for the past six years. During a meeting with Kim Mamouney (Parts 4 Business Development Manager) at this year’s AAAE, we were so amazed with what the group had achieved and what it could offer us as a preferred supplier, that we submitted our application.
Although the Parts 4 Trade Show is on a smaller scale, we were very impressed with the organisation and outcome of the event.
During the Parts 4 Trade Show, we were fortunate enough to make such a positive impact that we gained many new customers (which we prefer to call partners). Subsequently, due to the traction of our positive feedback, we have gained Parts 4 partners that had not even attended the Trade Show.
Our larger partnerships has enabled our Australian-owned and Trademark-registered brand to find its way into more and more vehicles on the Australian road. Our ignition coils are even making their mark on international roads as we are ever expanding our international presence, with partners in New Zealand and other individual global locations.
Our presence on the global stage may broaden as there is the possibility that we will exhibit at next year's AAPEX in Las Vegas and Automechanika in Birmingham. These two events will further help cement SWAN as a genuine brand in the ignition coil sector. So, watch out for next year’s updates.

SWAN IGNITION COILS PERFORMANCE BOOST.
Lasts years pandemic did not stop us from expanding our SWAN ignition coil catalogue, we were able to add some new performance vehicle coils to our range.
As part of our new range, part number IC517 runs the 2018 Hyundai i30 N Performance variant, the i30 N has a 2.0L turbocharged i4 engine that puts out 202kW of power and 378Nm of torque (on overboost).
Part number IC492 runs the 2015 Toyota 86, which uses a 2.0L Subaru Flat 4 engine (without a turbo), that puts out 147kW of power and 205Nm of torque. This car is popular with Toyota car modification enthusiasts.
Part number IC274 runs Toyotas performance version vehicles that use the 3.0L twin turbo 2JZ-GTE engine, as found in the 4th generation Supra made popular by the Fast & Furious movies. The engine boasts 206kW of power and 432Nm of torque for the Japanese market, while power in the overseas version was increased to 239kW and 441Nm (VVT engine 451Nm).
Part number IC70806A is an upgraded performance coil for Holden vehicles running the LS3 engine, the coil is originally found in the Corvette LS7 engine. The LS3 outputs 317kW of power and 575Nm torque (HSV variants were upgraded to produce 325kW), while the LS7 produces 375kW of power and 640Nm of torque. The advantage the LS7 performance coil has over the stock standard LS3 coil (can also replace the LS2 coil) is a bigger spark that improves power and acceleration.
Higher voltage allows for a larger spark plug gap that delivers a larger spark, resulting in a stronger initial combustion, it also bridges the spark plug gap faster. While higher voltage helps improve performance, it is not the only reliance, more so the key is to maintain voltage under load. So importantly performance ignition coils need to function consistently, maintaining voltage throughout the acceleration range. This is achieved by the internal construction of the coil by way of heavy gauge windings and more windings per coil.
Our new release of performance coils has been made possible by our ever-increasing SWAN ignition coil brand awareness and customer confidence in our quality, as such our customer base ranges from public to trade and reseller.

EMMA’S REVVING IT UP IN RALLY SPORT
Swan Ignition Coils is proud to be supporting Emma Smith’s career in Rally Sport.
From humble beginnings driving her first car – her grandfather’s hand-me-down Holden Barina – to today driving rally cars, Emma Smith has always had a passion for adrenaline and competition.
Growing up competing in equestrian events, Emma’s interest in rally sport began when she attended a 2016 Australian Rally Championship event with her now husband, Ross.
With Ross as her navigator Emma entered her first event in 2017, competing in the RAA Southern Rally driving a 1992 Ford Telstar Ghia TX5.
Knowing that heading into the race as a novice with no experience was not a good idea, along with Ross she decided to attend Rally School the morning after their wedding day. There was no immediate honeymoon to be, as the motorsport bug had truly bitten Emma.
Her next venture was focusing on race team ‘Garage of Awesome’ which she now operates together with Ross. Part of their racing arsenal is a 1988 Nissan Skyline R31 which is used for off-road rallying with Emma as driver and a 1984 Nissan 300ZX Z31 used for tarmac rallying, with Emma as a navigator and Ross as driver.
Beyond what happens inside the car, Emma also assists mechanically and more specifically is responsible for tuning the 300ZX under the guidance of close friend Antus from PCM Hacking. Emma and Ross also run a professional IT consulting business under the same team’s name banner.
With the race team taking form Emma put on the brakes when she fell pregnant with their son Charlie and for the 2018 rally season, she played a support role, even taking Charlie with her on some race days.
Upon her return to rallying, her first rally win as navigator came in 2019 in the Nissan 300ZX (which is powered by Swan Ignition Coils) at October’s Adelaide RallySprint. This win was followed with a remarkable podium (third) placing behind two much more powerful Porches at December’s Adelaide Rally, while she was also back in the driver’s seat of her Nissan Skyline doing a season of Khanacross and two intro rallies.
Swan Ignition Coils says motorsport has surely opened the door to women, with Emma reporting that at all of the events she attends she is seeing more and more women in all sorts of roles, from drivers to navigators, support crews, officials and the list goes on.
With the balance equalling up, it is her belief that motorsport should not follow suite of other gender separated sports as there is no gender advantage in rally driving. It is motorsport women like Emma that are helping to pave the way for the next generation as she encourages any young woman interested in the sport to join a junior development program, says Swan Ignition Coils.

SWAN IGNITION COILS SUPPORTS THE ‘RALLY’ TO FIGHT CANCER
The Shitbox Rally is a bi-annual event that raises vital money and awareness for cancer research. Again, SWAN Ignition Coils was proud to support the cause by donating ignition coils to Team Greg & Goldy to power their 1991 Nissan 300ZX.
After five years of trying to enter, the team made up of Matthew Goldsmith and Greg Otto finally took part in last year’s rally. They made up one of the 250 competing cars, along with numerous support crews to participate in the 2019 Spring Rally, held between 19-25 October.
To participate each team needed to raise $5000, team Greg & Goldy had raised $7000 with the entire event raising 2.3 million dollars.
In the past ten years the rally has raised over 21 million dollars for cancer research with improvements in diagnosis, treatment and support for patients, with the eventual goal of finding a cure.
All cars running in the event were purchased for under $1000, the Nissan 300ZX was pulled out of a paddock with the engine laying in parts in the boot.
After being emotionally moved by the charitable intentions of Matthew and Greg, the selling owner Jethro Miller offered to help restore the car putting in over 100 hours of unpaid labour. With the teams’ efforts and community support the car was restored back to race condition.
Along with the money raised for cancer research, the rally also had a flow on effect to the many remote rural communities that made up the rally route, with these towns seeing their populations explode for a much-needed economic boost as they catered for the race participants.
Feedback from the team is that the SWAN ignition coils performed perfectly well travelling the gruelling 3500klm terrain from Melbourne to Townsville with temperatures exceeding 40 degrees, putting enormous load and strain on the car’s engine.
The durability of the coils had been tried and test during the production stage as SWAN coils undergo thermal temperature shock test ranging from a high 125 degrees Celsius to a low of -40 degrees.
Being an Australia owned and operated brand, SWAN Ignition Coils gets great pride from putting back into the community via supporting charitable organisation, the Shitbox rally is just but one.

This year has been a big leap forward for Swan Ignition Coils

During the year, with the ever-increasing demand for ignition coils, Swan Ignition Coils explains it has also expanded its coil range to cover more than 6,000 individual vehicle applications, with all stock being housed in its Melbourne warehouse for immediate delivery – the company states this means there is no need to wait on stock arrival from third party suppliers or manufacturers.
With the vast number of suppliers and manufacturers now on the market that sell ignition coils, Swan Ignition Coils says it can offer its assurance on the quality of its product.

An Epoxy Casting System that was developed in Germany is the main one used for the production of Swan ignition coils; it says.
In addition, the technology utilises a horizontal plastic injection machine (also manufactured in Germany), a winding and assembly cell from Italy, a thermal shock test chamber and various other pieces of sophisticated technology sourced from other industry leading countries.
All of these tools and pieces of equipment are specifically manufactured following the ISO quality standards, the TS16949 quality system applied to all Swan ignition coils.

Swan Ignition Coils supports The Bonobos who are participating in the Shitbox Rally, raising money for Cancer research.
Swan Ignition Coils is proud to be part supporting The Bonobos who are participating in the annual Shitbox Rally event that raises money and awareness for the important work the Cancer Council carries out. The rally is run between 19th to May 25th and travels 38000 km from Brisbane to Darwin and is officially endorsed by the Cancer Council. In its ninth year the rally was founded by James Freeman after he experienced a family tragedy due to cancer, so all the money raised goes towards vital cancer research to fight the disease and hopefully one day no other person will be affected by the disease.
The events focus on mates coming together for an adventure of a life time, toughing out the hash Australian terrain all for a great cause.
In the rally we are supporting team The Bonobos and their 1982 Mercedes Benz 280se, they are one of over 200 team entrants and supporting vehicles that will brave the gruelling terrain. It’s difficult enough for a well kept modern car to make the distance, let alone a “shitbox” worth just over a $1000.Jeremy Gumley and Lucas McAuley make up team Bonobos, last year their car survived, completing the distance and helped raise over $8000.
This year Swan Ignition Coils is jumping on board with our support in an effort to help Team Bonobos beat last year’s figure.
